How to grow Carrot BERLIKUMER 2 - PERFECTION
1. Preparation of the soil:
- Carrots thrive in well-drained, light and sandy soil. If your soil is heavy or clayey, improve it by adding sand or compost to make it looser and airier.
- Prepare the soil by loosening it properly and removing stones and other obstacles that can affect root growth.
2. Sowing:
- Sowing depth: Sow the seeds 1–2 cm deep in rows.
- Sowing time outdoors: March–April, when the soil has warmed up enough (approx. 7–10°C).
- Sowing distance: Place the seeds 3–4 cm apart in each row. Leave 30–40 cm between rows.
- Sowing tip: To ensure good germination, keep the soil moist until germination.
3. Care:
- Watering: Carrots need regular watering to grow properly, but avoid getting the soil too wet. Water regularly, especially during dry periods.
- Thinning: When the plants start to germinate and have their first leaves, thin them so that there is about 3-4 cm between each plant. This prevents them from crowding and makes room for larger roots.
- Fertilization: Carrots do well with a light fertilization at seeding, but avoid over-fertilizing, as this can cause overgrowth of leaves at the expense of the roots.
4. Harvest:
- Harvest period: July–October depending on when you sowed. The carrots are ready to harvest when they have reached a length of 16-19 cm.
- Storage: The carrots from this variety have a long shelf life and can be stored for a long time in a cold, dark place.
Carrots are patient and can even be left in the ground longer to be harvested when needed. Be sure not to overwater during harvest time to avoid the roots becoming watery.
