Chives, coarse-leaved – 'Staro'
Allium schoenoprasum

An extra strong and aromatic chive variety with coarse, dark green leaves that add a lot of flavour – perfect for new potatoes, egg dishes and salads . 'Staro' is particularly suitable for those who want plenty of green mass and a mild onion flavour all year round , and it freezes well .

Sow every year for best results, but clumps can also be dug up and brought in for further harvest during the autumn and winter.

Cultivation & Care:

  • Sowing period: April–July

    • Direct sowing: On site

    • Pre-cultivation: Possible indoors in April–May

  • Sowing: In rows or tufts (about 20 seeds per tuft)

  • Germination time: 15–20 days

  • Harvesting tip: Cut the leaves a couple of centimeters above the ground for regrowth
