Tomato – 'Des Andes'
Solanum lycopersicum

An oblong tomato with firm flesh and a full-bodied flavour , perfect for both salads and tomato sauces . 'Des Andes' originated in the Andes, but was further refined in France. The fruits are about 10–15 cm long and offer a well-balanced flavour with both sweetness and freshness.

Fleshy, with a low moisture content – ​​ideal for sauces, baking and preserving. A reliable variety for greenhouses or warm open fields .

Cultivation & Care:

  • Sowing period: February–April (indoors in seedbed)

  • Germination time: about 10 days at at least 20 °C – high germination temperature is important

  • Repotting: In larger pots with nutrient-rich potting soil

  • Planting outdoors: When the risk of frost is over

  • Growth habit: Tall growing – tie up and pinch regularly

  • Pollination: Light shaking of the plant results in more even fruit setting

  • Height: approx. 200 cm

  • Plant distance: 50 cm
