Piri Piri is a traditional African chili variety known for its intense heat and high yields. The name comes from Swahili and simply means “chili.” The variety is primarily used to make the famous piri piri sauce, which is popular in Africa, Portugal, and Brazil.

The plants are low but bushy, very productive and bear masses of small, red fruits that ripen from green to bright red. The fruits are hot, narrow and 2–4 cm long. They can be used fresh, but are often dried for preservation and ground into a spice or used in sauces.
