Basil – 'Genovese'
Ocimum basilicum

One of the most beloved herbs in Mediterranean cuisine ! 'Genovese' is the classic large-leaf basil with an intense aroma and full-bodied flavor , perfect for tomatoes, pasta, egg dishes, salsa and not least – pesto . Delicious fresh but can also be dried or frozen .

Basil thrives best in a sunny location , preferably in a pot, and produces a bountiful harvest if you pick leaves continuously.

Cultivation & Care:

  • Sowing period: February–April (indoors), or direct sowing in May

  • Sowing: Sow shallowly in seedbed soil – do not cover the seeds, but water gently.

  • Feel free to cover with: Perforated plastic or place in a mini greenhouse

  • Germination time: 10–15 days

  • Planting out: When the risk of night frost is over

  • Harvest: June–September

  • Growth habit: Freestanding and compact
