Latin name: Lactuca sativa var. asparagina
Packaging: 1g

Celtuce, also called stem lettuce or Chinese asparagus lettuce, is an unusual but very useful lettuce. It is grown both for its tender leaves and its thick, crispy stem which is harvested and used much like asparagus or broccoli stem in stir-fries, soups or pickles. The flavor is mild and slightly nutty.

Cultivation instructions:

  • Sowing time: March–July (sow directly in open ground or pre-cultivate)

  • Sowing depth: 0.5–1 cm

  • Plant distance: 25–30 cm

  • Row spacing: 30 cm

  • Location: Sun to partial shade, thrives in nutrient-rich and moist soil

  • Harvest: After about 60–90 days. The leaves can be harvested earlier, the stem when it is about 2–3 cm thick.
