How to grow Carrot - Blanka from seed

Direct sowing outdoors

1. Sowing depth: 1–2 cm.
2. Sowing time: March – April (when the soil is warm enough and not too wet).
3. Sowing instructions:
   • Prepare a sunny location with well-drained and nutrient-rich soil.
   • Sow the seeds directly in rows about 20 cm apart and place the seeds 5 cm apart.
   • Cover the seed lightly with soil and water gently.

Care and maintenance

1. Thinning: When the plants are about 5 cm tall, thin to a distance of 5 cm between the plants to give the roots enough room to grow.
2. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods, to avoid cracking of the roots.
3. Fertilization:
   • Avoid nitrogen-rich fertilizers that can cause split roots. Use a balanced fertilizer instead.

Harvest

1. Harvest period: September – October.
2. Harvest tips:
   • Harvest the carrots when they have reached full length and color, but before frost sets in.
   • Use a grapple to gently loosen the roots from the soil.
