Igloo is an early variety suitable for harvesting in spring, summer and autumn. It develops large, compact, white heads that are protected by leaves. Perfect for immediate consumption after harvest and can also be frozen.

How to grow Cauliflower - Igloo from seed

Pre-cultivation in greenhouse

1. Sowing depth: 0.5 cm.
2. Sowing time: March – April.
3. Sowing instructions:
   • Sow the seeds in seed boxes or small pots with well-drained soil.
   • Place the seed in a warm and bright area, with a temperature of around 15-20°C.
   • Water regularly but avoid the soil getting too wet. The seeds usually germinate within 7–10 days.

Planting out seedlings

1. Planting time: May (when the risk of frost is over and the plants are about 10-15 cm high).
2. Plant distance: 50 x 40 cm.
3. Location: Sunny to semi-shady location with nutritious, well-drained and moist soil.

Care and maintenance

1. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods.
2. Fertilization:
   • Fertilize regularly with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer to support head development.
3. Protection:
   • In strong sun, the leaves can be folded over the cauliflower head to protect it from discolouration.

Harvest

1. Harvest period: July – September.
2. Harvest tips:
   • Harvest the head when it is large, compact and before it starts to crack or flower.
   • Use a sharp knife to cut off the head, leaving some protective leaves behind for longer shelf life.
